1. How to install Spread3D SketchUp Plugin?

Download the plugin and start SketchUp:

  1. Go to “Window” menu (or “SketchUp” menu for Mac users)
  2. Select “Preferences”
  3. Click on “Extensions”
  4. Click on the “Install Extension…” button. Select the plugin that you have just downloaded and click on “Open”

You should see a new plugin “Spread3D Review Plugin” in your list and a new entry called “Spread3D Review” in your file menu.

2. How to upload a SketchUp model to create an online 3D Review?

In SketchUp, open “File” menu, select “Spread3D Review” and then “Create Review…”.

A new window pops up. The first time you start it, you will have to enter a Google account. Indeed, Spread3D reviews are stored on your Google drive and use your Google account to authenticate you.

Once the upload is over, click to start editing the new review in your default browser.

3. How to change my review appearance?

In Spread3D Review Editor, use the "Theme" workbench to choose the default look and feel among the existing ones.

If you need more options, you can investigate other tab options to set your custom background, change the font or define interface colors...

4. How to create a 3D model viewer?

In Spread3D Review Editor, use the "Slides" workbench to create different views.

Select "New Slide" and "Interactive 3D Slide" to create 3D views with Zoom, Pan, Rotate and Measure controls.

For each slide, you can edit the initial view: select the "Edit..." control next to the "View" label, adjust the view to the desired position and then click on "Save view".

5. How to hide / show SketchUp objects?

In your 3D presentations, you can play with object visibilities to show your design in different configurations.

For that, use the "Slides" workbench and for the 3D slide you want to modify select "Edit..." control next to the "Layout" label.

Use the hierarchy tree to show or hide components and groups and click on "Save Layout" when you are satisfied with the output.

6. How to animate SketchUp objects?

Spread3D Review can animate your SketchUp groups and components.

For that, use the "Slides" workbench and for the 3D slide you want to modify select "Edit..." control next to the "Layout" label.

Use the hierarchy tree and the 3D controls to move, rotate or scale the corresponding objects.

7. How to set the center of rotation used in an object animation?

When you rotate a group or component in Spread3D Review, the rotation is made around a fixed point called pivot.

If you are not satisfied with this default point, you need to edit it in SketchUp. Note that the edition of this point is only available for components and not for groups.

To edit this point in a component, open SketchUp outliner, right-click on the component in the tree and select "Change Axes", and then click on the 3D to define the pivot axis.

8. How to annotate a slide?

In Spread3D Review Editor, enter the "Slides" workbench.

Select the "Edit..." control next to "Texts & Media" label.

Click on the menu icons to add texts, images or videos.

Click on "Save Slide" to complete.

9. How to create a link to another slide?

In Spread3D Review Editor, enter the "Slides" workbench.

Select the "Edit..." control next to "Texts & Media" label.

Create a text and open the link dialog.

In the URL section, use the syntax #slide(index) where index is the slide position in the presentation. You can also use the keywords #slide(next) and #slide(previous).

10. How to create an introduction slide?

In Spread3D Review Editor, enter the "Slides" workbench and create a new "2D Slide".

Select the "Edit..." control next to "Texts & Media" label to add texts and images.

11. How to create a "thank you" slide?

In Spread3D Review Editor, enter the "Slides" workbench and create a new "3D Auto-Rotate Slide".

Select the "Edit..." control next to "Texts & Media" label to add texts and images.

12. How to attach documents to your review?

Thanks to its Google Drive integration, Spread3D Review lets you upload any type of documents and link them inside your presentation.

For that, create a text in one of your slide and click on the "link" button in the toolbar. Click on "Browse server", you can there upload a document or choose an existing Google Drive document.

Once your selection is done, the link is automatically associated to your text!

13. How to export my review as a PDF?

If you use Chrome as a browser, you can convert your review to a PDF. Using a PDF is the guarantee that your collaborators will be able to access your 3D review even if their browsers don't support interactive 3D.

In Spread3D Review Editor, enter the "pdf" workbench and follow the instructions to save your document.

14. How to share a review?

If you are outside the Spread3D Editor, visit http://myreviews.spread3d.com and move your mouse over the 3D review you want to share and click on "Share". If you are inside the editor, click on the share button as shown in the video

Copy the review link and share it with your collaborators. No Google account is required to view the review, knowing the link is sufficient.

We recommend you to generate a PDF version of your review and to share it by email with your review link. This ensures that all your collaborators can access your 3D presentation even if they don't have a browser supporting interactive 3D.

15. How to access all my existing reviews or edit/delete a created review?

All your existing reviews are available at http://myreviews.spread3d.com.

You can access this link directly from SketchUp menu: "File", "Spread3D Review" & "My Reviews..."

Move your mouse over the 3D review you want to launch an action: "View", “Edit”, "Delete" or "Share" .

16. How to a update a review with a modified SketchUp model?

Ensure that your SketchUp model has the same name than your review.

If they match, our SketchUp plugin will automatically propose you to update the review with this new model.

17. How to add my logo and copyright?

In Spread3D Review Editor, you can add a logo or copyright which is always displayed in all your slides.

For that, use the "Slides" workbench and select the "Logo & Copyright" tab.

18. How to disable comments in my review?

By default, your collaborators can comment your review. You can disable this functionality in your Review Editor.

For that, use the "Theme" workbench and select the "Interface" tab.

Set "Allow Comments" to "No".

19. How to remove the hierarchy tree in my review?

By default, your collaborators can access the hierarchy tree of your 3D model. You can disable this functionality in your Review Editor.

For that, use the "Theme" workbench and select the "Interface" tab.

Set "Display Hierarchy" to "No".

20. How to remove an interaction tool?

Use the "Theme" workbench and select the "Interface" tab.

21. How to change measure tool units?

Use the "Theme" workbench and select the "Interface" tab.

There you can select the unit used by the measure tool: meters, inches...

22. How to automatically play your 3D presentation ?

The slide player automatically plays your presentation in full screen at a constant speed. This player is diplayed by default in the bottom left corner if your presentation has 2 slides or more.

To deactivate the player or change the slide duration, use the "Theme" workbench and select the "Interface" tab.

When sharing a presentation, you can also launch it in loop mode by adding ?autoplay at the end of your review URL:
http://share.spread3d.com/xxxx?autoplay.

23. How to add a reflection effect to a SketchUp material?

Use the "Theme" workbench and select the "Materials" tab.

Click on "Pick..." and click in the 3D to select the material you want to edit.

Use the "Reflection" slider to modulate the effect.

24. Are my reviews public?

No, Spread3D review is meant for professional collaboration and private sharing only.

25. Is a Google account required to use Spread3D Review?

Your collaborators don't need a Google account to view the review (but they need one if they wish to comment it).

However, as a review creator, you need a Google account to upload your 3D model and edit your review. The Google account is used for authentication purpose and for storage (using Google Drive).

26. Can I restrict access to a list of collaborators?

Spread3D Review has an advanced sharing mode you can activate to restrict access to a list of collaborators.

Enter the share dialog of your review and set "Google account required" to "Yes". Then click on "Collaborators" to add users identified by their Google account. Don't forget to share the review link to them.

This mode is ideal for team collaboration or if you want to keep your reviews only for yourself (cloud archiving).

27. How many 3D reviews can I create / How many collaborators can I have?

Spread3D Review doesn't set any limit.

We use Google Drive for storage and hosting. At the time of writing this FAQ, Google Drive is offering 15GB of free storage and a confortable amount of bandwith for standard collaboration scenarios. It means we can create thousand of reviews for free and use them without issues within a team or with your customers.

28. Which browsers support Spread3D Review interactive 3D?

All modern browsers supporting WebGl: Internet Explorer 11+, Firefox, Chrome, Opera & Safari. Full list here.
